9 NE Ohio Forepoets: Angell

Continuing a series I abandoned in April, I now finish with five Ohio Forepoets, those no longer with us bodily, but remaining in our hearts and heads, where their words reverberate.

Part 1
Barbara Angell (1930-1990)

FIVE FACTS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT BARBARA ANGELL

  • She curated the exciting Covertry Library Poetry Reading series 1970-89
  • Her first book, Games and Puzzles, was published by the CSU Poetry Center
  • She was a member of the famous performing poetry troupe, "Big Mamas"
  • She was one of the first Ohio Writers in the Schools
  • Her poems and a bio are at Deep Cleveland: Barbara Angell
     *****
Forepoet Daniel Thompson's poem, "Barbara Tanner Angell," ends:
An exit of light, Barbara sails away
Breathless, over her abundance of trees
bReal, on canvas, her fox's song, hungry owl
Groping mole and amber cat, all her night music
Rain and April, the call of names
Into the honeyed air of eternity.
