Intro
Awhile ago, my former grad school professor and forever friend Susan, who was living in Aptos, California, proposed we go to Yosemite in May 2020. And then, you know: Covid. So we put the trip off till September 2020. And then no, no, no. Undaunted, we signed up to stay in the Redwoods of Yosemite in May 2021, separate cabins, as she had to take her cats to N3, which she has stayed in 14 times and just down the road from us in Arnett's Cabin.
We originally planned to go north to the Bay area afterwards, but a lot was still not open, so we opted to drive across country to Susan in Aptos, drive in tandem to Yosemite, then we'd drive home and Susan would fly to her new life on the East Coast.
For once, we planned to drive 8 hours or so, instead of 12 or 13, and to see things along the way. Here's what we did and saw, all of which we highly recommend, except for the motel with bedbugs, and the two cars that nearly killed us within an hour from home. Our stops were:
Day 2: Lincoln and Bladen, Nebraska U of Nebraska and Willa Cather Country
and
Day 3 : Bladen and Red Cloud, Nebraska Willa Cather Country
Day 4: Rawlins, Wyoming Terror strikes
Day 5: Elko, Nevada Basque Country in America
Day 8, 9. and 10: Yosemite, The Redwoods at Yosemite
Day 12 and 13: Rock Springs and Rawlins, WY and Sidney, NE
Day 14and 15; Iowa City, Iowa and Home
Sounds amazing.
